Caucus Information

    • A precinct caucus is a meeting where you and your neighbors come together to discuss local issues and elect delegates for your Ward’s endorsing convention.

    • These caucuses play a key role in shaping the DFL platform, making it important to participate so the issues that matter to you are heard and prioritized.

    • They also serve as the first opportunity for candidates to connect with potential delegates. If you’re interested in hearing from Shelley or other candidates running for local offices like Mayor or Park Board, attending your precinct caucus is a great way to get involved!

  • Minneapolis will be holding its precinct caucuses on Tuesday, April 8th starting at 7:00 pm.

  • Check the Minneapolis DFL website for location information.

    • Caucuses will begin around 7:00 PM on Tuesday, April 8th.

    • Candidates running for office will likely stop by to introduce themselves, give a brief speech, and may take questions about their campaigns.

    • Caucus meetings can vary in length—some wrap up within an hour, while others may last two hours or more. To stay comfortable, we recommend preparing for a longer session by bringing water, a snack, or anything else you might need.

    • Caucuses are an in-person event, but you don’t have to be there to participate! If you have a conflict, you can fill out a non-attendee form so that you can still express your support for Shelley.

    • If you can’t make it and want to be a delegate at the Ward 2 Convention you must indicate that you would like to be a delegate on your form.

Forms must be submitted by 7:00 pm on April 5th.

    • The convention is the final step in this entire process. During the convention delegates will gather and vote to endorse candidates for office at all levels of the state government.

    • This year, the offices up for election—and endorsement—are municipal offices, including City Council, Mayor, Park Board, and the Board of Estimate and Taxation.

    • Candidates who are seeking an endorsement will need to win 60% of the vote of the delegates present.
